Alaska Trip Day 26

6/10/11
Bishop Cove, Mainland B.C.
Miles Travelled:  53

The boys woke up to nurse at 5:30, and we were on our way by 6:00 after Tor pulled the anchor and got us going.  It was a long motoring day, but we had a prize for making it all the way.  Hot springs!  The last time we all bathed was Port McNeill, on 6/1.  My hair was disgusting.  The thought of a warm bath kept me going all day.  Greg and Nicole had been to Bishop Cove hot springs before and were able to assure me that there were separate pools where it was okay to use soap, I was SO ready to get there.  Fortunately we had lots of beautiful scenery to travel through so it went quickly.

Given how naps have been going lately, we think the boys are getting ready to go down to one nap, so we tried to keep them up this morning and get them to only nap once.  It didn’t really work.  At about 10:30 Lars got really fussy and I thought “oh, this is when they normally get up from their morning nap and nurse, I bet he’s just hungry.”  So I nursed them, and they promptly both fell asleep.  They slept for 35 minutes and were pretty upset to wake up in their play area instead of their beds.
The dirty diaper bucket was really full, so we washed diapers underway.  It was nice to know we wouldn’t have to do that chore once we were at Bishop Cove.

We saw a humpback whale that appeared to be eating and later in the day we even had two Dahl’s porpoises play with our bow wave for about 45 seconds, it was fun while it lasted!

The boys took FOREVER to fall asleep for their afternoon nap, so they slept later than usual, and we were almost there by the time they fell asleep.  We wanted to make sure we didn’t wake them up by arriving at the hot springs, so we slowed down.  It was good to have them napping, but it was also difficult to know that we were being kept from a bath!

We pulled up to the dock and two power boats were there, but there was space for us.  Baraka tied up to a mooring buoy.  Even though it was convenient to be at the dock, I think Baraka made the better choice.  Later in the evening, one of the boats on the dock turned on a gas powered generator on the dock, and well, it was obnoxious.

Once we got tied up at the dock, Tor sent me up to take a bath while he cooked dinner and watched the boys.  What a guy!

The water was heavenly.  It was the perfect temperature and it didn’t even have a sulfur smell.  I took a bath in the tiny little pool that was fed by the main pool and could be drained, just for using soap.  Then I soaked in the big pool.  It was glorious.

When I felt like I had stayed away long enough, I went back to the boat and Tor almost had dinner cooked.  It is SO nice to be clean, and dinner was yummy too.

Tor went up to bathe after the boys were asleep and he was very happy too.  Tomorrow we bathe the boys!

Beautiful weather!
