Wigham Bay, Yeo Island, B.C.
Miles Travelled: 16
When we went to bed last night we weren’t planning on going anywhere today because the weather report was still calling for gale force winds, but when we woke up this morning and listened to the weather, the local lighthouse and ocean buoy reports were all completely benign for the first time in days. Tor and I hopped to action and got the hell out of there! Greg and Nicole weren’t far behind.
We needed to stop for fuel and water and hopefully internet access. There are two settlements nearby, Shearwater and New Bella Bella. Shearwater had fuel and internet but no potable water and New Bella Bella had fuel and water but no internet. Shearwater was closer so we stopped and bought some internet time and while we were there using the internet we decided to wash a load of diapers at the Laundromat. Then it was on to New Bella Bella where we met up with Greg and Nicole and we fueled up and got water and I ran up to the store and got chip ice (too bad, we need block ice, but something is better than nothing) and some cheese. Both stops were a total rush because we were trying to do them around the boys’ nap schedule. It all turned out to be pretty stressful, but at least we got away!
We headed for Boat Inlet to anchor for the night, but on our way there, Tor and I realized that we wouldn’t get there until after 5pm, which is when the boys need dinner and then the after dinner get the boys to bed sprint begins. Fortunately there were two alternative anchorages and we ducked into a very lovely Wigham Cove. Greg and Nicole anchored and we rafted up to them, easy for us!
I quickly threw dinner together (linguine with parmesan and black pepper) and the boys played in the cockpit with Papa. They were having diaper free time and there were some funny moments, but all three of them had fun. The boys ate Al Fresco in the cockpit and Tor and I joined them, though we were wearing clothes.
We got the boys to bed and then had dessert with Greg and Nicole and talked about the next steps. We plan on going to Rescue Bay tomorrow and will go through Fjordlands on our way to Bishop Bay hotsprings in a couple of days weather permitting.
