Alaska Trip Day 25

6/9/11
Work Bay, Sarah Island, B.C.
Miles Travelled:  39

We didn’t have the sun that we did yesterday, and in fact it was rainy, but this sure is beautiful country.  We are in the land of fjords and man is it impressive to be about 50 yards from the shore and be at the base of a 2000-3000 foot ‘mountain’ covered with trees right to the water’s edge and still have several hundred feet of water beneath our keel.  Wow.  Today was also a day of waterfalls.  Many, many waterfalls.  Beautiful.

It was a long day of motoring, but the beautiful country made up for it.  When we were getting close to our anchorage we were in a situation where we needed to slow the boat down to allow more time for the boys’ nap.

We had originally planned on anchoring in Bottleneck Inlet for the night, but it was south about 3.5 miles so we would have had to backtrack.  To shorten the distance we would need to re-cover in the morning we decided to check out Goat Cove.  No go.  It was very deep all the way up to shore and though it could have been done, we decided to bag it.  We were headed towards bottleneck when Tor talked with Baraka on the radio and Nicole mentioned Work Bay just across Finlayson Channel.  What a good find Nicole!  It was a good anchorage with decent anchoring depths, and we were very glad to get there!

We had split pea soup for dinner and put the boys to bed.  They took a long time to go to sleep, but once they did Tor rowed over to Baraka to socialize.  Unfortunately Odin woke up very upset after about 45 minutes and I couldn’t calm him down before Lars woke up screaming.  Fortunately Baraka had their VHF radio on and I was able to call Tor back since I was not able to calm both of them down.  He rowed back quickly and we eventually got the boys settled down and back to bed.  Tomorrow is a long mileage day, so we will leave when the boys get up to nurse early in the morning.
